3 Million Units of iPad 4, iPad Mini Sold within the First Weekend

Are new competition and high prices slowing the iPad sales?

Apple has been able to sell three million new tablets between iPad mini and the iPad 4, within the opening weekend.

However, the three million iPads is not an entirely new milestone for Apple. The company sold 3 million iPad 3s back in March of 2012.

Although Apple did not reveal how many of those 3 million iPads were iPad minis, it is certainly worth noting the fact that the new smaller tablet sold out very well even before Apple began shipping them out, sometimes pushing the waiting period up to 2 weeks.

As Apple’s iPads are now competing against aggressively priced, robust tablet hardware from Google, Amazon and Microsoft, their main edge is the superior tablet application store and the strength of the brand name.

Apple is still looking forward to selling a further 20+ million iPads for the period of the upcoming holiday quarter, which would boost the total sales over 60 million within 2012.
