Rachel's Retreat editor's review

Many will think that we have here another time management game which is pretty much a copy of Sally’s Spa and looking by the screenshots of the game and the decryption it really seems that way. But if you only start playing the game you will feel a complete new game that will surprise you in a positive way, making you addictive to the gameplay. Rachel has made some bad experiences with various spas and decides to open her own. Finding the location for the opening of the spa was not too heavy and with help of her future friend Sven she now has the opportunity to make a spa center by her own standards. You will be playing the game on 5 different locations and each of the locations will serve you with 10 levels that need to be finished. Every level of the fifty there is will provide enough different action in each segment of the game that you will never get bored. One of the similarities with the Sally’s series is the option of hiring assistants, but it is a good thing that this option is available here too, as sometimes things can get a bit too much hectic. The ultimate goal to the game is to make your customers enter the final stage of peace and relaxation, called nirvana. To satisfy a need you have to first click the customer, and after that on the station he or she prefers. Sometimes this might be a specific station, while on other times it might only be a certain group of stations. If you have a customer that wants a specific station which is currently busy or you don’t have it yet, there is the machine that can change their needs, as their needs are displayed in different colors around them. The best possible option to get the max out of your customers is to put machines that can be upgraded to serve more customer at once, max 3. This will help you in the later stage of the game to earn the coins you need, but in this games case, it’s not coins that you get, then karma points. Most of the karma point you get, come from your customers when they enter the nirvana, and above them appears the purple aura which signifies that you can now collect the karma points as the customers are now pleased, and got for what they came for. The more clients you send in at one time, the more bonus cash you will earn so it’s a really good idea to accumulate more clients before clicking on the gong to send them to the Nirvana room. What’s probably the biggest change in the game compared to the others is the game and upgrade system. Normally you would collect coins and then upgrade in between levels what you think is necessary. But here you have to do that while you play. In between levels, you can’t upgrade your machines, which is a good thing as you can upgrade what you need through the gameplay. Rachel's Retreat also features another way of earning karma. On a regular basis pink crystals will appear at any place in your spas, and by clicking them you can earn additional karma. Also, customers might fall asleep, get hurt or demand help at a station, or stations get dirty and damaged. With all of this put together there will be barely time for you to ‘relax’ in the game, as this fast clicking and thinking game is just what we need now and then. There are two winnable awards in the game: Client Guru Award and Karma Guru Award. You can always satisfy the basic conditions of finishing a level, but the awards will make you hustle more. If you want to win the Client Guru Award, you will have to win the Expert score on each and every level. The mark for this accomplishment is the diamond crown and the Karma Guru award is a gold crown. To obtain the reward on every level you must do the following: As long as you serve every client that comes in without making them angry and walking off from the place, you will definitely obtain the Client Guru Award. As for the Karma Guru Award, do make full use of the growing crystals to earn extra coins. The more crystals you use in a chain to more coins you’ll get as bonus karma points. At the end of every level there will be a mini puzzle game that you can choose to skip or complete it for an additional 100 coins. At the beginning the mini-game is cute, but it gets repetitive as it repeats every time on the end of each level without any changes in the game. If you have missed an award on a level, you don’t have to worry as you can play the level once again when you are located on the games map. Repeat any level that you want to, to win the ultimate accomplishment. The games originality in the story combined with the beautiful graphics, and the sound won’t leave you flat hearted at any time in the game, except for maybe the mini-games, but the overall rating of the game will certainly surprise you and give you a couple of hours of some serious fun.
