There are three tasks you have to complete successfully in order to accomplish your goal: bounty hunting, collecting stash, and trading. Bounty hunting is the most fun part of the game where you have to shoot down enemies for cash and items but to get the reward bartenders or some other non-player characters offered there is always one target enemy that you must defeat. As you travel from planet to planet you will come upon boxes floating in the air. These are stashes you have to collect. Trading is the essence of the game play and it's quite interesting. You buy and sell items but you have to figure which will give you the most return value. You can also earn money by leasing cargo ships. In most role playing games you can't find many modes to play in but in Space Trader: Merchant Marine there are two single-player modes: Campaign and Challenges. In Campaign mode your goal is to earn certain amount of money in set time limit. In Challenge mode there is no time limit and the focus of the game is in trading.
