SheepArcade editor's review: It is a first person shooter game set against the Vietnam War scene. It is a sequel to Shellshock and is about an American, Nate Walker, who is deployed to a secret base near the tri-border of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. He is then greeted by a soldier who relates the story of how a special ops team went into the jungles of Cambodia to recover a secret cargo known only as "White Knight. But only one man from the team has survived but turned insane. As the American is taken to meet this person, he recognizes him as his long lost brother and the game begins. The basic game-play has incessant rounds of shooting Viet Cong soldiers or zombies until you find a helicopter or boat waiting for you to climb aboard. The game mostly will have you wandering through a jungle, running into small U.S. outposts that are about to be attacked by the Viet Cong or battle it out from a standard firebase under siege, a crumbling Buddhist temple or a warren of VC tunnels. There are only ten missions in Blood Trails but lacks online campaign leader-boards. The controls are standard and easy to use. And you will need different types of guns for different situations like the shotgun for close encounters with zombies and the carbine rifle for easy pick-offs. But a serious limitation is that you can hold only one main assault weapon at a time. Progressive health and realistic enemy damage keep things moving along at a brisk pace and the graphics and sound are just average with an interesting opening plot. It is a standard Vietnam War shooter with added zombie monsters and a secret government project. It is a game which makes use of psychological horror and fear, relying on the power of suggestion, mood, tension and foreshadowing - implying the notion of danger, potential danger, imminent danger, and horrifying acts that have or are implied to have occurred or will come to pass. |
