SheepArcade editor's review: This real-time strategy game features an interesting sci-fi universe. This is a unique addition to games on the computer from publisher Sega and developer Creative Assembly. Of all games this one represents a different approach altogether to the real time strategy genre for consoles. The story of the game unfolds at a time when the population on Earth is just a handful as a result of a catastrophic event that occurred centuries ago. The survivors of this disaster are few and have only a deserted stretch of land to wander about.. A part of the tribe adapts themselves to the harsh environs and become powerful over time. They call themselves Sai. But a privileged minority group still exists who are called Echelons and thus ensue a relentless battle between the two sects. You play the role of Commander Aiden Geary, a leader of the Echelon Special Forces and a strange player in these troubled times. Stormrise introduces the Whip-select-control system which is an easy and quick way of controlling and issuing orders to your troops. If you are controlling units from the ground, you have a lot of options for giving your units complex direction and easily switching between units, either by flicking the right stick or holding it down and selecting units radially based on where they are on the map. Apart from leading and directing your troop, you are also required to manage the pre-determined resource nodes on each map, which must be captured first and can then be turned into shielded turrets and refineries. It is important that you figure out how to maintain control over these nodes as they are useful resources and are a great help in building new units. The basic gameplay mechanics are interesting but the control system gets a little awry when there are too many units on the battleground. The game allows grouping of units together and issuing indirect commands by moving the cursor over a friendly unit's icon, hitting a button and dragging the resulting arrow to a new destination. The graphics go well with the theme of the game and are mostly dark with decomposing architecture, and a subtle sense of menace. A great gaming experience overall for real time strategy game fans. Unlike other war games Stormrise offers players a view the action from an immediate third person perspective, which drastically changes both the feel of the game, and the player’s control method.
