Jodie Drake and the World in Peril editor's review

Archeology was always a passion of many people throughout the world. Most of them studied archeology and they want to discover the wonders of the world in a way that nobody saw them before as there is always some little mystery to what happened in times when the Great Pyramid of Giza has been built or to some of the religious and most mysterious places throughout the Asia, mostly China and India. But every country has something to hide, and that something should stay hidden as the history decided that long time ago. Jodie Drake has some much more noble reasons for what she is doing. She is not an archeologist or treasure hunter (Tomb Raider). Her passion goes for discovering the long lost places around the world and taking their pictures, but what is normally an impossible task for a normal human being she does that with ease. She represents an angel version of well-known Tomb Raider, Lara Croft. Her mission is to discover those miracles of the lost civilizations and to put some light on the dark past that even though we think we know, we probably won’t know everything what really happened at some points in history. She does all that through her camera as all she does is taking pictures of those items and ancient places, and she has become well-known for her work. Because she is now a famous photograph and known for her extra-ordinary adventures, a very renown travel magazine has hired here to travel to different locations all across the world to seek out some amazing historical places that are forgotten even by the most oldest myths and stories. This doesn’t represent to great of a challenge for Jodie as she has gone through a lot of these situations and there is nothing that can surprise her here. But as she is starting to travel around these weird places where her newly appointed boss has sent her everything starts to take a strange turn as even though thousands of miles far from each other, these places start to have mutual drawings which start to connect them. The game consists out of six different chapters, and every chapter in a game represents a different location in the world. When starting with the first chapter you will proceed to the next one (of course), but the game doesn’t dictate which chapter will you chose from the remaining five after you finished the first one. The choice is yours to make. The game is set through different difficulties and obstacles that need to be overcome so you can proceed further. These obstacles are normally set in a form of hidden objects that are given to you on a list which helps you get through them. Now when you get to the puzzle part of the game, there will be nothing to surprising about it, as mostly they are all very familiar with any hidden object fan. The thing that will get you going for this game is what surprised me and many other reviewers and that is the scenery that is changed almost completely, as this type of theme has been rarely used for HOG. Mostly it is some lone and dark places that are so spooky and abandoned you’ll start to like them, because of the numerous times you have seen them. However, the mini-games (puzzles that is) like I said are mostly very familiar to the games you have already played before, but there is one or two games that will give you a new breath of life as they are different from the regular games usually put to break the game’s flow. The hidden object aren’t made in a way for you to wonder around the world personally so you could recognize some of the items, or does the manufactures sneaky tricks like changing the shades of colors, etc… So there won’t be some exhausting searches, but just in case if you do need help the hint button is there to help you around the game, especially in mini-game like the labyrinth. This probably is the game where you would strive to use the hint system the most, but like in any game not using it is recommend because of the score. The hint itself is recharged about every half a minute or so. The games graphics represents a standard of its age, nothing too fancy, but standard. There will be some blurry scenes where you will probably have to strain your eyes to figure it out completely, but they are pretty much rare throughout the game. The sound of the game is made with the characters in both ways, with when they speak and through subbed dialogues. The music that is used for background is matching for this type of game and the treasure discovery, but that spookiness isn’t always the best solution so you will turn it up and down depending on your mood and the atmosphere in which you want to play.
