Romance of Rome is an adventure/hidden object game. The game is played in Rome, where you can see the ruins, the seven hills and all the glory of ancient Rome with ads of other cultures but it all fits in the scenery of this city. The game takes you on a tour through the beautiful city of history and myth. The game is about a young man by the name Marcus who is a poor Roman and who wants to become wealthy person. While walking through the forest he saves the Emperors daughter from an attack by wolves and this gives him the chance to rise up in the society. Soon after this Marcus is tied to a tree and rescued by Octavio, a nice citizen. As a poor man who wants to become “someone”, he has to go through the city backwards and forwards in order to find hidden objects, to run errands for the citizens, to solve mysteries and to find the missing Imperial Relics. You’ll earn a certain amount of gold for every item you find or mystery you solve. The harder item the more cash you get. You need these coins because Romans won’t take you serious if you don’t have coins/money and lots of it. By completing missions you get the status and missions including your would-be lady love and the smarmy senator trying to steal her away from you. Some of the tasks you need to do is to clear rats out of the pantry for finding a lost fibula. As you progress through the city you get the map with the locations and with the new places adding in as you progress through the city. Each location on the map shows how many objects you need to find and puzzles you need to solve. The objects you need to find appear as pictures. Objects with a green background are those things that go into the inventory and this helps you to solve the mysteries. With the completion you’ll get more money and status so you can climb up in the social ladder. Objects you need to find may appear half-transparent and laid over top of another object, and other may be tucked behind scenery so that only a small part can be seen. The good thing about this is that you get the images of the objects you need to find. However there are items which are a bit move difficult to find, but once you find them you get more money than for those you find quickly. When you find everything you needed to find the game will let you know. And if you find yourself lost and unable to find some things there is an endless supply of hints which help you. But this is not where the story ends. Marcus can’t earn his status only by finding items and solving puzzles. He also has to spend his money on his outfit by dressing himself in the finest clothes and accoutrements available on the newly rich. He has to look like the best messed citizen and has his own estate and ship. Without this you are no one in Rome. This game has a bit of everything, with items being laced into inventory, shopping side, while you spend your money to gain better status. You can fully explore all the locations with hints and without a limit if time. This game has high quality, good length and interesting challenge. There is a lot of attention to detail with appropriate music and incidental sounds, voice acting to bring characters to life, interesting puzzles to solve and challenging hidden objects. Another good thing about this is the attention to the continuity of the scenes. For example, in the town scene you night end up having to crack an egg to solve a puzzle, later when you return to this scene you will find the cracked egg still on the table. Each cartoon sequence between the levels shows Marcus in his newer and increasing finery as he interacts with citizens. The game has seven levels and each level has four or five scenes. All the hidden objects are well hidden and they blend in the scenery so sometimes it can be tricky to find them. There are also 5 coins at each location to collect as additional money. This is wonderful, clever, adventure/hidden object game and is great to be played. You can play by level or you can play through the whole thing in one shot. However the best way to play the game is to take your time since this is not a long game. You should slow down and enjoy the game and all the scenery of the ancient Rome with many details to spot.
