SheepArcade editor's review: A fantastic hidden object game with a casual atmosphere, based on the classic novel by Alexander Dumas. A popular saga of betrayal, envy, imprisonment and revenge set against a 19th century backdrop, this casual game has an amazing blend of hidden object gameplay with challenging mini-games. You step into the shoes of Edmund Dantes and help him escape from prison and take a revenge on his betrayers. Explore over 20 intriguing locations, interrogating 8 suspects and solving over 15 puzzles as you look for thousands of hidden objects. The most engrossing factor in the game is that all the scenes and items are perfectly in sync with the legendary tale. Especially the opening sequence with beautifully illustrated artwork based on the story is awesome. Each level or scene is timed and there are over 15 different types of mini-games. Some of these games are jigsaw puzzle type map assembling or a simple underwater match-3 game. Other variations include Sudoku puzzles, pairing card games and swap puzzles. The difficulty level is moderate to tough and there is an option to skip the tougher ones. Though choosing not to play the mini challenges results in a time penalty cutting it down by ten minutes as well as loss of all the jewel-based hints. But bonus scenes help to refill your stock of the precious gems again. In every scene has a wide assortment of objects to be located ranging from halberds, tankards and muskets to all sorts of animals, insects, birds, fruits and vegetables. The cut scenes are nice and the overall graphics are good except for a few scenes which are too dark and murky. The objective of the game is to identify which one of the suspects is actually guilty and who are not. Spotting all the concealed objects relating to a suspect automatically informs you as to whether that person is guilty or innocent. There are two modes the game can played in- Normal Time and Extended Time. The former has less time than the latter and is more suited for die-hard hidden-object game fans. But choosing to play in shorter time and not completing the object searches and mini-games results in having to replay the entire segment till you find them all. An adventure game with intriguing puzzles, interesting characters and a compelling storyline based on the famous tale, this is definitely worth a free download. |
