SheepArcade editor's review: A perfect sequel to Da Vinci’s Secret, this exciting new Puzzle Game has thrilling challenges and bonuses. Pharaoh’s Secret is basically the latest addition to the match 3 games genre. The story revolves around the adventures of an archaeology student named Daniel and his professor during their investigations of the great history of Egypt. You are awarded bonus points for finishing up levels faster and plenty of mini games add to the overall appeal of the game. The basic gameplay involves moving colored stones in a grid. A matching trio is removed from the board. An interesting feature of this game is that if a match is not properly made, then more stones are added to the game board, adding to the challenge. Once the board is full, you have to restart the level. Apart from match 3 puzzles, every level has specific goals like assembling pieces of a broken picture or fitting in the right key to open a lock. The game introduces a feature called lattice which adds a new dimension to puzzle games. You would have a set of stones which can be removed moving a special tile to its holder. Puzzle levels are all timed and there are awards on finishing it faster than the set time. The built in tutorial in the game is helpful. There are 6 different types of power-ups and as many varieties of obstacles which add to the variety in the game. Expect to find bombs that can remove bricks or stones or a flash or maybe an ankh that can remove an entire row and column of stones at once. You might have to look for keys which get stuck behind brick walls or from under a lattice grill and these obstacles are fun and challenging to overcome. The mini games are a welcome break and the tasks can range from removing pairs of tiles from a stack, to jigsaw puzzles or sometimes can present a small hidden object game to be played. Completion of each mini-game gves you a bit of an insight into the history of Egypt and reveals the name of the next temple to be found. At the end of the 100 levels, a round may include 3 types of obstacles, multiple key/lock sets, and several kinds of powerups. You can increase the value of powerups over the course of the game and choose which ones to improve first. Pharaoh’s Secret features full screen graphics, an intriguing story line and challenging levels which promises to be an incredible journey through the enchanting land of Egypt. |
