Introduction:
When troubles seem to hit man kind, they simply don’t stop. The best example of this is the villagers of the game Island Tribe. They have gone through a lot of things to get where they are in the sequel of the game. In the first part they were in hell, literally, as the volcano has erupted on their home island threatening to destroy everything on the island, and the only solution to this was to abandon the island and find a new one. After they have successfully made the escape from the island and went to the sea, lady luck has smiled upon them by saving a shipwreck from the sea, which to return the favor for saving his life tells them a secret location of an island that could become their next home. Another fact that he tells them about the mystery island is that it is concealed by the fog and the rest of the world doesn’t even know it exists. Everything sounded like a dream for the villagers of finding a new home but when they arrived at the island they started to notice why the island was concealed by the mystery fog.
Gameplay:
From this point forward starts the game and of course your selection of difficulty that you want. The game has been split up into two modes (casual and arcade) where every mode is adapted to the level of knowledge that a player has for the game. Being a beginner in this game mean casual mode for you as if you haven’t played the previous part of this game, then you better play this mode, as the manufactures haven’t left behind in the game a tutorial that could introduce you with every aspect of the game. Playing the game in arcade mode means you are not new in this game, or you have a tendency for resource management games and completing them without a fail. The very start of the game has your skills put to the test as a mistake made there could be fatal for the rest of the game. If you have played the previous part of the game, then you will notice the similarity to the original part, but with some distinctive differences, however here is a short description of the game: The workers and materials are all what it is all about in the game, and you must balance the two to be able to get to the third, that is the goal of the game, and that’s building yourself and others a village to live in. But first, first…The workers are trained in training camps to a level that satisfies your needs and, of course, your game playing tactic. After they have reached the level of satisfaction you then need to use them to go and look for a variety of different resources that are to find in the game. Water, wood, stone, honey or milk among others is just a part of a wide specter that needs to be always available for you. Basically what you need to do in this game is constructing and maintaining a lot of structures that are expanding constantly through the 30 levels that are in the game. The usage of the materials in the game is also quite logical as you get to understand the nature of the game. The water is used for putting off fires that emerge (more about that later) and of course to water the crops so they can grow. The wood is for building structures like bridges and totems and of course repairing them. The thing that will challenge you in this game is the resources as they aren’t picked up on some random locations. All of the resources in the game are mutually connected and to get one, you need to produce another (for milk you need grain, and grains are produced on farms, which are gotten when you water them). After a couple of buildings have emerged and some of the conditions fulfilled, the upgrades options start to pop-up and for them you also need the materials form the resources department. But from time to time to get to one location that you need to visit, a hindrance appears in a form of an animal. Wolfs, bears, bees and some other sorts of animals, (I can’t remember them all) are a part of the obstacle course that can only be solved by giving the animals resources they want from you. This is when the game starts to show its true face as the resources can’t be enough for every obstacle that comes along, or structure that needs to be built-repaired-upgraded, making the strategy and planning factor a crucial one. In the first part of the game the points were gotten mostly by making combos, and in the sequel it is the same, however making combos asks patience and the already mentioned, planning. There was mentioning about fires and some other ‘accidents’ that happen in the village, and that is all thanks to the new addition of the game. Pirates are there to introduce you with another obstacle that can be easily solved if you plan along for this through the game. Through the game you need to find treasures that are buried throughout the whole island, and that is the only thing that pirates love more than torching houses, destroying places and similar activities. You will need those treasures or the pirates won’t leave you alone at all, and the diamonds will do the trick of getting them of your island, of course if you can find them. The game doesn’t end there as besides training your workers, you also have to take care of them. Because of the beautiful upgrade in graphical environment, the workers can get frozen, and the only way to unfreeze them is warm blankets and some fire around them. They can also get hurt, mostly by the animals and you have to take medical care of them too.
Graphics and sound:
Like previously mentioned, the graphical part of the game is the thing that has advanced the most since the original part. From the whole group of environments in which you will be moving, to little details of repairing the statues and totems and of course the search for the items that is included in the game to add the whole thing the final touch. Now what you will be probably wondering, especially if you have played the previous game is if the game is too short. The previous game had 30 levels, like this one, but the original probably was ‘longer’ for many players. The reason for this is simple: The new game is better, on multiple places and time flies when you are having fun and that is well-known fact. With this said, there is nothing more to add, except there is a leaderboard where the results can be compared with others to produce additional feeling of competition.
