Dream Chronicles came to an end, and when the trilogy ended it seemed it was over for this game. But according to Playfirst, they decide to release a new trilogy and this time the center character wouldn’t be Faye, then it is time for the younger ones to take over and in Faye’s case, half-fairy daughter Lyra, who is now 18 years old is now forced to take responsibility. The night before her 18th birthday she fell asleep and had a dream about that all of the people in the kingdom have disappeared. When she woke up she soon realized that dream wasn’t only a dream. Everywhere she looked around she couldn’t find anyone. Luckily for her, her grandfather found a way to contact her, as soon she discovered that she is in a different dimension, and he contacts with her by leaving notes all around to help her to help her explain where she is and what she must do. Her Grandfather explained to her, that she must start looking for clues in order to find one person which can help her get out of that dimension, The Clockmaster. The rest is up to, Lyra that is you, to finish all the necessary tasks so she can return home from that dimension. You will be searching for cleverly hidden objects and you will have to solve puzzles all of which brings you one step closer to your final goal. Lyra also has a handful of spells at her disposal that can be used for things like translating the fairy language, illuminating dark areas, and even calling down thunder and rain from the sky. To use these spells you need the jewels which correspond with every spell specifically, and they are scattered all around the game, so you better watch real closely as they are very helpful. As the game stretches through several areas you will be traveling from one to another using an airship, but to use the airship you need fuel, which also has its own kind of jewels to use as propulsion. The puzzles in this game are fairly original and quite challenging. There are some of the standard puzzles such as jigsaws and logic games, but they are accompanied by more unique and original games such as encryption, word puzzles and combination locks to name a few. You will see a couple of puzzles that are integrated in the main game, and instead of clicking on the item after which a puzzle is displayed, puzzles are being solved by moving or interacting with the objects on the main screen. The jewels have additional part of the game to, as every tenth jewel allows you to grow, or to evolve, by obtaining additional abilities, which without you can go to certain areas which require these skills. One thing that must be mentioned is that this part, unlike its predecessors, has a hint system to help you if you get stuck on some of the items while searching. The hint system is used like a magnifying glass, which helps you reveal the whereabouts of the searched item. The game can be played in two modes: Casual and Challenge. Playing in casual mode makes the puzzles a little bit easier and also gives you the option to skip them after a certain amount of time has passed. The thing where this sequel of the new trilogy surpasses its predecessors it the beautiful graphics, and that is the first thing you will notice when playing The Book of Air is how absolutely gorgeous the art is. The lovely hand drawn graphic elements of the game are something that will take your breath away. The one thing that will complete this graphics is the great voice acting and some of the better soundtracks throughout the game. To summary the games story isn’t as great as the previous ones, as it has some holes that should have been filled better, but the compensation is certainly made by the graphics and sound elements. The demo will explain all of it by itself, and then decide whether you will buy it or not.
