A fresh perspective and a wonderfully captivating new member of adventure games, Emerald City is sure to entice you. Enter a thrilling world of discoveries as you explore the magical world of Oz through a dark and gritty crime noir lens. You play the role of Petra, a young private eye trying to make a living in the strange Wizard of Oz-inspired world known as Emerald City. The story starts off as a a certain "Dee Gale" walks into Petra's office and offers her a generous fee for finding her missing fiancé, Anzel. Petra is lured to take up the case and soon finds herself in a web of deception and danger. The game uses the well known characters and places of Oz but weaves a different story around them. Dorothy and the gang are still around, but a lot has changed in the 40 years since she first stepped into the town. The once-vibrant mood of the green-hued city is tarnished by paranoia, strictly enforced rules, and tightened security as a probable war threat looms large over the city. As with point and click games to play online, you travel to different locations, interact with different people, hunt for clues and pick up items to help solve puzzles. Most fun games rarely have interesting characters like Jack Pumpkinhead who has a pumpkin for a head but has no clue about the smuggling of illegal magical artifacts or the Frogman - a talking frog in a smoking jacket who is blackmailing half the residents of Winkie Country and have fun interacting with them.The game has a multi-level hint system that reveals one clue at a time and encourages you to solve the puzzle. Traveling around this magical film noir land is a simple affair. In order to visit another part of the city, you simply click on the nearest Gump taxi stand and you are transported to your chosen location. Enjoy collecting a few magic spells while you move through the city and they would surely help you solve the puzzles. As Petra works her way on the case, she receives quests and a jewel gets added to her progress bar as she completes each one. Petra takes copious notes in her journal throughout the game and it holds clues, sketches, and key dialogues. This little book also is a great place to look for hints. The voice-acting is great, the hand-drawn characters and backgrounds are gorgeous and add to the addictive atmosphere of the game. A hugely enjoyable game with an exciting crime drama plot woven in the familiar land of Oz, Emerald City Confidential is an enthralling adventure deserves to be labeled as cool games without a doubt.
