Alice in Wonderland is a classic on its own. The story about Alice is worldwide known, and there aren’t many people who haven’t heard about it. We know that Alice has followed a strange white bunny into a rabbit hole, and finished in Wonderland. The story then tells of her adventures with the Red Queen, The Cheshire Cat, Humpty Dumpty and other characters. After that she gets back, and thinks that’s all a dream. But is that what happened really??? Here we have a story that will have you intrigued even more when you heard about Alice in Wonderland for the first time. This version of Alice is much darker as you will discover things you never imagined. The heroine of this game, even if called Alice in wonderland, isn’t Alice, but a young women called Rachel. Having just purchased a grand Victorian house in New England, she discovers this was formerly the house of a girl named Alice who, along with many other girls from the surrounding area, went missing ten years prior. After searching the house to get to know it better, she finds a rabbit hole in the basement, better yet a portal to another dimension. That dimension is of course Wonderland, but not the one you use to see in cartoons and movies, but much darker one, and more scarier. When she travels down the rabbit hole, she puts 2 and 2 together, as with Alice missing over 10 years and some other girls from the neighborhood. Rachel decides that is up to her to find all the girls that are gone missing and try to save them from captivity. As you enter the world of Wonderland, everything looks very familiar but definitely different, as said before why! To find the girls, you need to start finding clues that will bring you to them and help you set them free. Objects will often be found across an entire area consisting of several rooms, and not just a single screen. The games interface is always there to help you in any way it can. As you have a goal to accomplish, it is found in the bottom left corner of the screen, to remind you what you need to do. As for the hint system in the game, it is presented through the Cheshire cat, as she gives you hints when you need them. It is a standard HOG recharge system. While you will be searching for different items, you will notice that every item is tied closely to the story of the game in some way. You will come across with couple of characters in the game from the story, but in a still image look. There won’t be any animations, but it doesn’t need them anyway, because of the genre of the game, even though it would have been nice if there were some. Like said, this is not the Wonderland that you are use too. This one is far more bizarre and different from the original one. The things you will come across are totally different, but the beauty of the games scenes is something that the game developers can be very proud on. Besides the hidden object search, and the recharging hint system there is also the mini-games or puzzle part. These run the gamut from sliding block puzzles to torn-up photographs and notes that need to be put back together. The mini-games can be skipped after a certain amount of time, but you probably won't need to as the games difficulty isn’t something that will challenge you very much. The game has its pros and cons, like every other. The pros of this game are the original story, and the beautifully done graphics and the characters in the game that will surprise you very much. There is also the beautiful soundtrack that fits the gameplay to its core, but it’s a shame that it’s not very long, so after a while, it can get a bit repetitive. Here’s where the cons start too: With the original story the game developers had all the cards in their hands to make a game to become very popular, but as they used too many standard hidden object elements that become too often seen, they got a game that is above average HOG, but they could have accomplished much more. Those who love a good story will definitely find themselves in this one, as the game will pull you in a totally new world of imagination and dreams that can be seen only in this game.
