Step into the shoes of John Cromwell an art expert, who is hot on the trail of an elusive figure called The Ghost. You play John in the game and investigate thrilling crime scenes, solve plenty of puzzle games and try to spot the notorious art thief, The Ghost who excels in stealing valuable art pieces and replacing them with really original looking fake paintings. The basic gameplay involves spotting the difference between two paintings which look too similar but nonetheless have a fine line of discrepancy. You have to click on the areas that are different but too many wrong clicks might result in the level being restarted. There are plenty of one minute mini games which add to the diversity of gameplay and this way you get many free games to play. They can range from picking the odd man out to matching pairs or memory matching. Each mini game lets you earn extra revenue. Apart from differentiating the real paintings from the forged ones, you would also be doing a bit of art restoration. A few of the paintings would need to be touched up by using the right chemical. There are ten such chemicals to choose from and must take a chemical, and drop it in the container in order for it to show up on the paper. A red cross indicates a wrong choice of chemical. You have a total of 8 chances to complete the restoration work. There are power ups and upgrades that you can buy all through the game with the revenue or gold that you acquire. Power ups like always make the puzzle solving easier. The graphics in the game are nice, the paintings are beautiful and a joy to explore and the intriguing puzzles combine together to make Art Detective a lovely and fun game.
