When you think about the story of the game it kind of makes you wonder are we talking about Titanic or a new version of it. Nightmare on the Pacific is a game full of different cut scenes combined with the hidden object search to give you an end result of epic measures just like Titanic was (but not in a way of disaster!). The game starts on a cruiser called Neptune, and it being caught in a storm. In fact it is not a ‘normal’ storm, in fact it is a hurricane and it is sinking the ship. The Brooks family is abroad that ship, and when the ship is caught in the moment of sinking and the storm, everybody except the mother that is the wife is caught in their chambers. In that precise moment she has the opportunity to leave the ship and rescue herself, but that isn’t an option as her whole family is in danger and stuck in their room. Now you have one purpose only and that is to put your family together and secure them from the different dangers that are on the ship, as the ship is a wreck and in one point of the game the ship splits into two parts, ring a bell? The game is all about hidden items and the puzzles in the game, as you have to find different items all over the ship so you can use them on different places on the ship. Besides the items you need to find the puzzles are always there to make your search much more difficult preventing you to move forward unless you activate your grey brain cells. You’ll put together jigsaw puzzles, find and replace missing parts of machines to make them function, solve tile-sliding puzzles, and otherwise navigate the cruise ship searching for one family member at a time through a series of seamlessly connected chapters. Because of the games great lot of diversity when it comes to the hidden items, getting bored of searching items is entirely not an option. When you search for the items on the ship, every hidden object scene will provide with enough different tasks in the game, and items to find too… The game has a lot of backtracking, but the good one, as items appear always on different places and to use them you must go all the way back or forward, depending on your current position. This also includes the fact that you will find not just one, but many items in the game, for which you won’t have a solution to where it is supposed to be used and this will make you think harder and remember every part of the ship you went through, for a possible solution. There is a ‘shortcut’ so to speak, but it comes only in the premium edition, that is a walkthrough, and besides this there are many other advantages of a premium edition, but that is for another review. But finding a solution even in the standard edition shouldn’t be too great of a task as the game ‘writes’ down all of your progress though the game. The games graphics is something very worthy of mentioning in the review especially the beginning of the game and some very exclusive high detailed scenes. The opening of the game with the ship and the hurricane ravaging and sinking the ship slowly but surely is a beautiful scene. However, there is another part of the game where it stands out and that is the sound. Unfortunately it is in a bad way, as the game audio doesn’t fit very well with the game because of its low quality especially when it comes to the voice acting. Depending on the skills of the player you will have and average time of two hours of gameplay, and that depends also on the hints and tips you use. The walkthrough that comes with the premium version will definitely shorten the gameplay so frankly I wouldn’t recommend its usage unless you are “really” stuck somewhere. The gameplay has been divided by the search for the family members, as every family member has its own chapter in which the mother/wife is searching for them. The game has some pretty nice touches added and the experience is phenomenal except with the sound but besides that the game will provide with so much challenge and searches you will definitely be satisfied.
