Introduction:
HOG's, they just keep on coming and coming in more ways and sub-genres that you can’t handle them anymore. Personally I have reviewed a lot of them and I think I’m feeling a kind of overflown by them. It is the same idea over and over again, with you searching around piles of trash that can get you excited on the first pile, but when the next five piles become identical…you get my drift! To tell the truth I still love HOG’s, but playing something new is becoming harder and harder with every new release of something new inside it and a lot of old already seen content…The Hidden Object Show Combo Pack is my first of this kind, as I haven’t played the separate releases as they were coming out so I will review both of them one by one…
Gameplay:
The Hidden Object Show is somewhat special compared to other games as the rewards are ridicules, but you will be striving to get those rewards as much as you can for that precise reason. The game will exhaust you to the limits but not because of its difficulty, but because of its long duration which is quite exceptional with 30 different hidden objects scenes and with one hundred rounds waiting for to become your worst nightmare at some point. Luckily just when you feel like it will become, the additional mini-games (which there is more than enough) will break the so far gameplay and provide you with something new to replenish your desire for playing the game. But first the ‘old’ part of the game as this is a hidden object, where you will go through rooms full of items that need finding, and then you will encounter that will make that searching more than special. The whole game is a show; in fact it is a gameshow that has one intention and that is to make the whole thing one big spectacle. The items that you must find are too difficult to find, especially if you have stocked up with hints in the game. You can carry five hints with you, and you can replenish them by finding the question marks around the scenes. This will become very useful in some cases like when you are stuck in scenes where you can’t find a single item to continue forward and that is the point in the game where the hint saves the day. Mostly those items will be hidden in the corners of the screen and not fully displayed making it almost impossible to recognize it, unless you are lucky in finding it with a couple of random clicks. Winning cash in the game is nothing new and will be done simply by clearing the hidden object scenes, but how much cash will be won it depends on how fast do you clear the scene. At the beginning of each bonus round you'll spin a wheel to decide which of the ten mini-games to play, all of which are variations on the basic seek-and-find format. (Three are available right away, and the rest are unlocked.) The wheel can become sometimes very tricky and because of the wide range of mini-games, rewards and punishments, you should try to avoid the unnecessary fields if possible. The help for doing this is the Skip coins that you can earn by spinning the wheel with the right speed to earn it. Place these on a mini-game that you don't like and it will prevent the wheel from landing there on the next spin. And even if you lose a bonus round, you still get to advance.
Graphics and sound:
The sound of the game combined with the voice acting can get at times a bit repetitive as there is no newness in them. The graphics of the game isn’t something to impress like the sound, but this doesn’t matter that much as the gameplay is what counts here the most. Sure the scenes could use a bit polishing and not hiding the items in the dark and corners, but that can be ignored.
The Hidden Object Show: Season 2 is really something as it has been changed in a couple of places in the game, giving a whole new meaning to the long, when it comes to casual games. The previous release was long for sure, with 100 rounds, but the Season 2 has 300 rounds that need to be completed giving you a lot more material to handle and of course additional hours to play. The first thing that you will notice in the game is the graphics but we will talk about that later. The games structure remains the same, with a lot of seek and find to be accomplished and of course a lot of rewards to be found, but this time the background scene has been altered and you are now located in a carnival. Before there were toasters and some other things, but typically for a carnival there will be cars for boys and stuffed animals for everybody. The gameplay is decide in a similar way as the original release, only this time instead of the wheel you will be using a crystal ball of a gypsy woman. Now the things have changed in the game a lot, and probably for worse in some segment of the game and that is the duration. Before you had 100 rounds and 10 mini-games to split them up, but now you have 300 rounds and 11 mini-games. When you think of it a bit better the ratio of distribution isn’t quite the best and it is expected for you to feel a bit monotonous during the gameplay, so from my point of view don’t try to get through the game in 2-3 times! Let it chill down a bit and you will enjoy the very lengthy game quite a lot. In each scene you can also find and click on extra tickets to add to your total, question marks to add hints, and skip chips, which can be placed on a mini-game you don't like so that the fortune teller is guaranteed not to land on it for one turn. This remains the same from the previous part. As for the game itself to switch the game show with the carnival was a great idea from my point of view. The story is has fitted in quite nicely in the original part, but this time the carnival is the perfect premise for making this type of hidden object games.
Graphics and sound:
Now the biggest change, mentioned in the second part, is the concerning the graphics part of the game. The back and white premise of the first part was somewhat unusual, but for hidden object games, this isn’t the best possible option if you want to make your items that are hidden count. This also goes for the rest of the game as the color is of course there to show the beautiful details and effect of the carnival which makes it an attraction in general. The humor of the game stays where it is supposed to be and making you laugh depending whether you consider it funny or not, but in general there is no great neglecting in the game, except for a small dosage of sound which could be done a bit better…From the ‘scary’ and creepy theme to wild life screeching sounds, the improvement is not seen so well by many player. There is always a catch, but this time it is small enough to be simply turned off and you will solve that problem leaving you with a great game, especially if you are sick and tired of game with duration of 2-3 hours.
