Have you ever wondered does anything exist besides us? Well the universe is probably endless, but what about parallel dimensions? Nobody can deny that strange things keep appearing and happening from time to time, all around the world and there is no real evidence that can tell us the reason for those happenings or from where to they come from. In The Otherside – Realm of Eons, Miranda had a similar experience, but she got a few answers to those questions straight away. While writing her book, she got what a lot of writers get from time to time, a Dead End. In that precise moment she had a visitor on her door, to be exact she had a package delivered to her, just to find out she got a ‘key’ to open up a portal between the real world and a world called Otherside. This other world was full of creatures that only people could think of in their dreams. Suddenly a teddy bear comes to life, named Jovie, and it will be your guide when you travel through the Otherside, as your hidden object missions will go from the real world to the Otherside and then back again. Soon she's on a quest to reunite a brother and sister torn apart by evil forces and she will do everything in her power to unite them back again, since the sister has been kidnapped and she only wants to go back home, and the brother only wants to run out of the real world. We are dealing here with a standard straightforward hidden object game as rarely does the game has implementation of other genres like point-and-click. Generally, you must find objects to complete a set of items to move the plot forward. You can be asked to find identical items (such as sheets of music), things described only with a single-word clue, or objects that look nothing like the example icon you’re given. Occasionally you'll break to solve simple logic challenges, but it's back to object hunting soon enough. What will probably impress you the most about the game is its beautifully done graphics designs that characterize the game, especially those done on the Otherside. But what is unfortunately about the game is the fact that these beautiful graphics are spoiled with 2D cut scenes which don’t even touch the level of details that are done through the game. Besides the standard search for the items you will encounter obstacles that Miranda need to clear if she wants to move forward. For example, an item you need is on the other side of a fire through which you can’t reach. You must find the parts to fix a broken fountain, which puts out the fire, before you can finish the first set of items. After you found the missing tiles/items, you than drag them from the inventory to the place they need to be put, like dragging an ice cold Coca Cola Blue onto a humming fuse box. But if you can’t find all parts you need to assemble the searched item, you can use the hint system the game offers. The problem is that the hint system doesn’t recharge as fast as most of the hidden object players have gotten used to. About 2 minutes are required so it refills again, so you better use it wisely. Sparkles and glowing outlines indicate portions of the background which can be interacted with. This appears in two cases, either when you can interact with the background, to examine it a bit further, or that area is door through which you can pass. In case that you try finding objects just by random clicking across the screen, you will be ‘punished’ in a way that the teddy bear Jovie will start floating across the screen on a cloud, and like always you can’t do anything about it. Unfortunately the gameplay experience is not as good as the visuals of the game, making it a bit repetitive after a certain period of time. There will be a couple of mini-games in between to break up the hidden object search a bit. Some of them aren’t worth of playing as they don’t satisfy standards of standard mini-games, while others like the jigsaw puzzles, memory puzzles and others combined with the graphical surroundings of the game provide such wonderful experience while playing. Summering all the things together pros and cons the game doesn’t get nearly to the top category, especially as playing it again doesn’t make any sense, but the first time you play it just might give you a wonderful time and enjoyment. Finish the game, find the lost girl, and you’ll have a couple hours of fulfilled fantasy. Click here to open game download page!
