Sheeparcade exclusive review:
Tarot cards have always been a mystery. Gypsies have used them for centuries to tell somebodies future and many besides them use it for the same purpose, but besides the future, I heard it can also tell you about your past and present. The beginning of the game as similar too, as a strange man walks in with the fortune-teller Rosalie, asking for his fortune to be read. As soon as she started to read his fortune, the strange man cased a spell making Rosalie fall asleep, and put the whole town under his spell as his slaves. Rosalie was protected by her cards, but at what cost? She finds herself, as she awakes, in the cities prison without the one thing that can help her deal with this situation, her tarot cards. The man was probably an evil sorcerer and cast a spell on her and her cards shattering them all over the town. Now there is only one thing left to do for you and that is to escape the prison and start your search for the cards and the solution for the evil above the city. You'll spend the majority of your time in hidden object game The Tarot's Misfortune searching various corners of Luzio for your missing tarot cards, as well as objects that will help you gain entry to the next section of time. You will have to do some backtracking in the game as all items can’t be found immediately in the same level. There are two lists of items available for to see. The first one is with the blue items, which you can locate on the level on which you are currently found, and the second list, the grey one, requires from you to fulfill all of the conditions that need to be fulfilled for that specific item. Every item you will need to use somewhere in the game is left in the inventory for later usage. When it comes to solving those riddles in the gray list, they are mostly simple, like everyday examples from our lives that we encounter. The cursor will change into gears when passed over an item that can be manipulated in some way, and will change into a directional arrow when it goes over an exit to another scene. An arrow with a lock means that it is a way out, but cannot be used until something is solved. What the game has done too well is the rest of the puzzles that you encounter. When you start to assemble a puzzle together you only have to find the correct outlines, as if you get the wrong piece with similar lines it won’t match. Only the correct ones will, so you can’t mistake on this one. In between finding objects and solving small puzzles, you'll have to find the differences between sets of tarot cards. There are a couple of difference that must be observed between the cards, which can be fun to discover the first couple of times, but after that it just becomes tiresome. If you do get stuck with some of the items you are search whether it is in a mini-game or main mode there is a quick-charging system to help you. If you aren’t in the mood for playing mini-games, especially if you played it already than you can just skip it using your hint bar. Another thing that you will encounter is the 3D scenes or the scrolling scenes if you prefer. In these levels, you will have to scroll left and right in the search for your items as the item you are searching for is visible from one angle but totally blocked from the other one, so pay attention when you come across on this level. Another nice thing about the game is the hand drawn graphics, nicely put together with some beautifully done music adding to the gypsy spooky feeling, but unfortunately the sound loop is not long enough, to avoid repetition. Probably the biggest flaw of this game is its length. Even with 12 chapters, for any relatively speaking experienced player it will provide about 3h of gameplay, max. A bit of disappointment for sure, but what can you do… A very nice game indeed, but needs a bit of polishing and additional story involvement that will make the game much longer, as it has the potential of becoming a very addictive game.
