Aerie - Spirit of the Forest

Game description:

After an asteroid falls from the sky, the mystical land of Shangri-La lays in ruins. Rivers are closed, meadows are razed, animals are hurt, and the majestic temples are powerless. As protector of nature, Aerie is called upon to bring the land back to life, and with your help, she will restore the beautiful land once again. Guide Aerie through forests, mountains, swamps and snowy peaks as she works to save Shangri-La. Heal plants and trees, make rivers flow, and repair damaged lands. Awaken slumbering animals and cure them so that they can help with valuable resources to continue the healing. In each of the 35 magical levels, you'll have to use strategic thinking and resource management to accomplish the goals. Are you up to the task?

Sheeparcade exclusive review:

We have a game here that we don’t see every day, not just because of its genre, but because the way it is played. Aerie – Spirit of the Forest is a pretty mixed up game made combining simulation, time management and arcade game into one. The game is all about fixing things and the way you are fixing them… You play the part of Aerie, a forest spirit who is trying to heal the land after a great disruption. One day burning meteors were falling from the sky and turned almost everything to ashes. The damages where catastrophic and those creatures that survived and plants were hurt pretty badly. Aerie is a friendly fairy supported by will-’o-wisps to bring everything back to the state it was before the meteor shower but to do that they need to collect a certain amount of resources that are needed to fulfill their intentions. That is the main goal of the game, to collect the resources that you need however, you can’t be doing it as much as you like. To restore life to the country you need to find a different resource that is life-force, water and seed. Life is colored in red, water is recognized in blue and seeds in green color. You will be collecting these resources through the game and you will be spending them throughout the game however in a different rate that is not equally. Different healing places (trees, plants animals) will require different resources like to wake up a bear you will need 3 life and 1 water. This means you will find yourself in situations where you have, let us presume, much more life-force then you need while water is almost out. There are different ways to collect the resources that you need: One of them and the easiest one is just picking them up from the ground as they show up. Another source of your resources, the more direct and the one you will collect your resources the most is at their sources. Rivers will provide you with water on a regular basis, deer and gophers support Aerie by creating life force, while oaks produce seeds. This however has a slight catch in its production. When you collect resources from these animals or tress, they will start building-up the life-force or water or seed until they reach their maximum, but until then you will need to keep doing your other tasks. When they reach their maximum you can then collect them, however most of the precious time you have will be lost on the running around across the map to reach those places to collect the resources. To avoid this you must plan ahead and create a strategy that will combine your resource collecting with task performing. This end result can be only achieved if you really know what you are doing, and the newbies in this game won’t know that for sure. I recommend for you who don’t get the game through the review and tutorial to play the game but don’t try play, rather to know the tricks, the timings the little things that you will need and then restart the game from beginning and then play for real. However the animals for example have additional tasks or duties that they need to perform so you can advance through the game or just give help with some extra resources. For example bears will remove obstacles, eagles will collect resources that Aerie would not be able to reach otherwise, and beavers will build dams if needed. When you are doing your healing magic you can do it only one area in a game at a time. This is the part of the game where you must start thinking strategically the most. The healing takes time and while it lasts you basically can’t do nothing during that time expect collecting resources. You can do this without any problems, and you will collect some resources that you need but in most cases that won’t be enough. Luckily there is a bonus, a speed bonus in fact which combining with the time needed for the healing and with the resources ready to collect can give you much more than you really need and to finish up a level before the moon phase (time predicted) has ended. Now back to the resources, I have mentioned that there are three ways to collect them and I have mentioned only two. The third way is through bonuses that are different in different sections of the game. In the first section of the game you can find those bonuses in a form of mushrooms in three different colors of course and every color matching the one type of resource. And this goes the same in other sections only the bonuses are given in a different form like crystals, but everything else remains the same. If you finish up a level within the time limit, you will be rewarded with a crystal which will give you the possibility to restore a special artifact in the game. When I have played the game, I did experience some difficulty as I was pretty new at this so it did give a bit of hard time on the beginning, however I kind of got used to it pretty fast, (probably because of the numerous online resource management games I played) and didn’t need that much adaptation which resulted in a standard difficulty not to easy or hard for that matter. You will enjoy the game definitely and its graphics which isn’t one of the best but it certainly provides with some very lovely presentation of this magical world.
