If you succeed, Caesar will be grateful and the Gods are sure to smile down on the citizens of Rome. Sheeparcade exclusive review:
The roads are the main connection between the cities, streets, states and everything for that matter, but roads weren’t created just like that, and the civilization that knows that the best are the Romans. The number of foundations for roads all over the ‘old continent’ that they have put and roads built with rocks is very impressive! That theme was the source for the game Roads of Rome, but now something else is needed and the person that has successfully built those roads in the first part is called again to fulfill his duty and help his Cesar. In Roads of Rome 2 Rome’s general Victorius this time besides the duty of helping Rome’s emperor has another obligation to help him, because he has married the daughter of Cesar and is enjoying all the luxuries of such a life. But a great misfortune occurred when Cesar was poisoned and no antidote known to human can help him… The only solution to solve this problem was to ask the gods to help him, but a simple prayer won’t do as you need to go straight to them! You know where they ‘live’ but there is no way of getting there, and that’s general Victorius comes into play again as he is going to make a road to the gods. The first obvious characteristic that many returners to the game will notice is the same first level, just like in the previous part. This has produced a lot of confusion with some, but as for my opinion it was a nice move done by the manufactures giving it something different and identical from its predecessor at the same time. You can select the mode in which you want to play the game by your own abilities, that is in the relaxed and challenge mode. The game has given you 41 levels to complete, but the final stage in the challenge mode isn’t possible to finish unless you score expert times in all the previous level in the challenge mode. For the ones that didn’t play the first part of the game here is a little introduction. The basic goal of the game is to connect two corners of the screen (game field) but to do that there are many different conditions to be fulfilled including some special requests from the gods to the earthly hindrances that need a solution from you to get through them or around them. To do all of this you need people, that is workers that can do these jobs and for the workers to be able to their jobs you need to feed them and of course deliver them with the number of needed materials for building. Those resources are stone, food, wood, and gold, and they can be either collected or produced. Everything in the game spins around spending resources but also earning them too. Spending is easy, we all know that from our everyday examples, but earning is a tough one. The workers collect food either from barriers or from pig farms, wood is collected by cutting down trees or building sawmills, and so on as different buildings give you possibilities to replenish your resources. As you unlock further levels and new areas different gods will come to you with different requests as you need to do something for them if you want that they do something for you. At times you will be asked to build a complete infrastructure with the necessary buildings within it. But there are many enhancements to the game as of course other diversities that have been more than upgraded to the original core gameplay. The underwater world for example provides additional resource collection with the seaweed being a food source and the woods that have been stranded on the shore come as a source of wood just by picking it up. Later on you will also be able to construct a workshop or a smithy, which both increase the speed of certain actions performed by your workers. The game provides with a very strategic input throughout the whole game like the diversity of the building that you can build as they can impact on the whole gameplay both good and bad. The good is because if you select the right building that you need in that moment it can substantially increase the pace of the game and forward your game, but if you select the building you don’t need for now, then you will lose valuable resources and will have to either restart or replace the resources by collecting additional ones. This is because the game doesn’t offer you the cancel button in a case of mistake where you select the wrong building by accident. Another thing that I found as a minus is the lack of option that enables you to queue multiple tasks one after another so that when a worker has finished with its job it continues to the given one. Unfortunately that doesn’t happen here and you can select the next task only then when a worker has finished its previous job that is a worker is free. Besides these minor glitches the game provides with such a performance that it can’t be denied by almost anyone because of rich nature and the diversity in the gameplay. Enjoy it…
