Welcome to the magical realm, in which almost anything is possible. Good or bad, pretty or ugly, there is a bit of everything there to make this game interesting. In our case, The Fifth Gate is a magical gardening world, where an evil – nymph, Morgana, has kidnapped you, Eden, the best Gardener in the whole magical kingdom. By giving you an early warning the last creature caught by Morgana tried to escape her gardens, and let’s just say it isn’t around anymore. But as Morgana is only worried about her own garden she promised to let you go, if you complete the Five Gates, that is you must pass all the five gardens individually to fulfill her demands and for you to get out the gardens. As the story begins, you have woken up in Morganas gardens as previously explained to you. Eden must raise magnificent plants, while keeping bugs and wilting at bay, in order to complete tasks and brew potions set by Morgana and earn the five stones to open the various worldly gates. Only once she's obtained all the stones for the Fifth Gate will she be set free. Your job and the goal of the game are to breed different flowers, to make potions for Morgana. Each garden features a different theme of plants, and the whole game consists out of 2 phases: the harvesting and planning phases. Harvesting phase is more of a time management type, as the flowers blossom you must harvest them in a limited time period. But before you harvest them you must maintain them, with watering and killing any insect that tries to attack it. You water up with a water can, and the killing goes with clicking on them until they are all dead and prevent them eating your flowers. In addition, the amount of flowers you can harvest is limited by the size of your storage area, and the amount of plants you can water is limited by the amount of water in your watering can. The other phase of the game or the planning phase is planting and maintaining such beautiful plants and that all requires coins, and as such you will also be given the responsibility of managing your magical finances in order to best suit Morgana's needs, as well as those of the garden and plants. But where do the coins come from? Each harvest allows you to sell flowers for some coins, but amount of the coins is very small, so the game gives you the second and the best options for earning coins. By mixing up different flowers you can create potions which you sell and get a large amount of coins that you always need. So watch out to make as much as potions as you can, instead of selling flowers individually. The Fifth Gate features five separate gardens, each with 14 tasks of various lengths and previously said each garden has its own theme which makes it unique. In each garden you start with only one plant. After a quest is completed you will be given additional 2 planets for different combinations. After you have enough plants you can upgrade your plants into 3 different grades of flowers. This is important because you will need specific amounts of flowers of the specific grade in order to create your potions. Now here is the part where the planning and strategy is good to know. You must realize which of the flowers the best combinations for you to make potions are. As there are different variations of flowers there are also different variations of potions which when sold give different amounts of coins. This game will provide a couple of seriously fun hours of gameplay, and if you like the story just a little bit you will fancy the game too. Overall however, The Fifth Gate is a charming and entertaining time management title, sporting beautiful graphics and music, as well as varied and original gameplay features.
