Virtual Villagers have gone a long way to get where they are now as it took many tests, many trials, and finally in the fifth part of the game many secrets are being discovered, which were anticipated by many faithful fans. The fifth installment has left of where the forth part has ended, with the villagers wondering what is the cause of these great disturbances within the islands magic, and causing so much evil. In Virtual Villagers 5 we learn precisely what has our fearless villagers once again go exploring further abroad, this time going into the heart of darkness itself, the inner island. What dark mysteries are lying in the depths of the islands core? The game begins with your immediate capturing by the ancient natives of that island and of course locking you in a cage. You’ll begin the game by having your villagers build a food bin out of the branches that make up their cage. What happens next is pretty much very similar to the previous parts of the Virtual Villagers and it keeps up where it has left off because all of the features of the game are already done so good that there is no point of changing them. There will be only a couple of changes in a form of new features. When you start the game, the first thing you need to take care about is the food supplies as they are the most essential thing. Then starts the building of the homes for the people as they need somewhere to live, but also have babies. The reproduction option is back and the babies have their own special tasks that need taking care of. The interface is still pretty simple, as if you have something to build; you just put a group of villagers on the place with the building materials. The babies still collect food like the mushrooms, but they also have other roles in the game like for science and the new features of the game, to replenish the God’s power. The villagers are uneducated and they needs guidance, which you can find by looking at the map of the game, which will show you all of the important locations in the game which you need to visit, so you villagers can learn additional skills. However accessing those places like the hospital, science lab, fruit bush, etc… (In general most of the things you have found in the previous parts of the virtual villagers) won’t be that easy as they are blocked by different totems that are located on several places around the map and guarded by locales, which means you need to perform different actions for a different totem if you want to remove it. The totems are guarded by inhabitants with red masks and you must find a way for them to be removed from their guarding place to be able to get near the totem and dismantle it with your villagers. After that the guards retreat to an area which still under their control; however not all guards are like that. There are guards that wear blue masks, and this introduced a new feature available only in this sequel. Devotion is a tool you will be using that has been given to by the ‘Gods’ helps villagers convincing them to hear the truth and ‘see the light’. This will mostly make them join you and of course as a result you will have an increase of population. There is another new twist with the introduction of "god-like" powers, allowing you, the villagers' "god" to intervene directly into the flora, fauna, weather, and life-cycle of your intrepid followers. One of those powers you use on the beginning of the game which convinces the villagers in your power as you show them a cloud of butterflies and so forth. Besides feeding them and sheltering them you will start to learn them different skills they need to manage, but be careful when doing this. There are multiple levels of skills that a certain villager can achieve and at times you will need a construction worker which has the highest rank possible if you want to finish up a level. The real-time management is still a great advantage and disadvantage for some people (depending on your level of skills). In my case, I had a couple of down’s, but mostly they were up’s, as I always was good when it comes to create a right strategy, and after a good night sleep and maybe sometimes wakening in the middle of the night because I miscalculated the time properly, the end result is a lot of babies, finished projects and new challenges that await you yet. However sometimes, for example if your master builder gets too old, or eve die and you don’t have time to train a new one or have forgot about it, in the alter stage of the game an option appears which allows you to use your Godly powers and make him younger or maybe even bring a villager back from the dead. This sequel provides a lot of challenges and new puzzles which are probably on a higher level than in the previous parts, so it wouldn’t be wise to start you virtual villagers with the fifth chapter of the game… The game’s graphics is a worthy successor as it can really make its predecessors proud as it continues the tradition of past parts and provides with glamour’s graphics and some crazy animations that always pull a few smiley on your face… Click here to open game download page!
