Throughout the casual games market a lot of attempts has been made to pull out new and exciting ways of some ‘old’ genres so they can become more special or better yet unique. Match 3 is one of those genres on which there was a lot of experimenting because many of the ideas in this genre have been worn out, and this required some new and fresh idea for a match 3 game to be successful or at least to revive the old ones that were really good in some way. Knightfall is the third sequel to this extraordinary match 3/RPG combination that is set to be a game that will keep you on your toes all the time. The story of the game is quite normal for a hero knight as he has finally been rejoined with his princess from the second sequel and they are now living in their peaceful home with a great stack of gold in front of their house so that the knight can see its bright shine every morning when he wakes up. One morning, one horrible thing occurred, something totally unimaginable, as the knight discovers that his stack of gold has been stolen that was lying in front of his house. This called for immediate action and the knight decides it was time to put on the armor once more and return what is rightfully his. However this time around his is not alone as his princess has done the same and equipped herself with everything she needs to return their stolen treasure. So they both set out for the campaign that will return their treasure with the knight that uses his drill to make his way through and the princess with her some sort of spinning fan. They need to find their way through different dungeons and make your way through. Our hero the Knight is trapped in a grid of colored boxes, and your job is to remove these boxes and allow him to work his way through the grid, grabs the keys and leave through the exit door. The removing of the boxes is done by drilling one box at a time; however this isn’t the best possible way as you will run out Action Points and maybe even life energy before you can finish everything. Boxes are removed by clicking on them, and adjacent boxes of the same color will all be removed in one go. If you click on a box one at a time the cost of the AP will be really big, while making matches of three or more will consume only one AP. Another obstacle in the game, are the monsters that are found in the different places of the grid. When you want to confront them there are two different ways as you will be playing with two different characters. If you are playing with the Knight, then you should drill a hole above the monster and then the knight will vanquish him with his drill all by himself as he falls on the enemy. When you are playing with the princess, you must do this the other way around, as to vanquish them with her weapon they must fall on top of the princess. So depending on what character will you use, you will have to adapt your strategy to the gameplay. Besides the part with the match 3 and losing energy, you can lose energy and take damage from the monsters, however if you slay them you can become more powerful as you collect gold from your enemies, then you are able to buy upgrades like armors to make the knight stronger, and collect experience from he fights which upgrades the character to a new level. These points are given to you at the end of every level and depending on the score you will receive a certain amount of those points that increase the life energy and action points. This is only the beginning of the strategy involvement to the game as you can rotate the filed in any direction you want by the angle of 90 degrees. When you're not busy crawling through dungeons you'll travel around on the over world map where you can stop at the local pub to listen to some gossip or stay the night to rest up. You will need these ‘good night sleeps’ as bosses will start to appear and they will need every single power spark you have in your character and of course usage of field strategy. Run them through one by one and at the end the mysterious Taxman will be waiting for you for the final showdown. Besides the story mode where you chose from knight and princess there are other modes in which you can enjoy, like the endless dungeon and survival mode where you protect a little pup. The game is generally based in its former editions, but even though it has kept some of the good old stuff in this edition it has also added new ones, like new opponent (Vampires). The new bosses add to the game much variety and new strategy that needs to be conducted. The game’s graphics can’t be praised or considered as a con, as the game genre is like that, with simple effects, but the details are very nicely drawn which was to expect from this game.
