Magic Encyclopedia is game that when it came it had us pretty amazed in the way it looks and the beautiful gameplay and the story which it provided. The game was about Katrina, a young student at a magical academy, and she was on a mission in saving her brother. Since then a couple of years has passed and now Katrina is young women, but still learning at the magical academy. There were a couple of bugs in the first part of the game that most of the people expected that will be left in the sequel, as in most of the games case, but to our positive surprise the game has been ‘fixed’ and upgraded in many ways that you could imagine. But let’s first talk about the story. Katrina was studying and preparing herself for exams, while terrible nightmares keep her awake all night long preventing her to rest and when suddenly an origami messenger crane appeared in her room with the news from her brother that a professor from the school has disappeared, and he is tracking him since he disappeared and he is very near in discovering his location. What shall it be school or adventure…an obvious choice! So starts her global travel across the five continents, trying to find her professor, and she also starts to find answers to her nightmares, which are more than just nightmares. You will be searching throughout different locations in the world, and in the countries you visit; you will search mostly in the places that are characteristic for that country and their legacy or their customs that are kept even today. To make you hustle while you search for the items in the game, game developers had used the splitting items into multiple pieces, and you have to collect them all if you want to use them. It can be challenging to find some of these shards as the designers cleverly hid them in the environment (and they can be quite small, too, which might frustrate some players). Gamers can also click on some areas of screen to zoom into a secondary area (such as a closet, drawer or bird's nest) and some levels have two full-screen areas you'll need to swap between in order to find everything. As you find items and collect all the pieces, you’ll then use them to find additional items in the game. What’s another improvement in the game is the navigation and movement through the game, as it is now very easier. Each area can have up to four different locations with scenes that are interconnected, which means you will be doing a lot of moving between the areas in the search to complete all the tiles of an item. Movement between connected areas is accomplished by clicking special coins in the control panel, allowing you to travel back and forth between a Chinese temple and a Mongolian Yurt with ease. If you get stuck on some of the items, you have the hint button to help you, and mostly it is always there when you need it. The hint is self-recharging, as it recharges every minute or so. Mini games, 18 of them, are spread all over the game and are tied with the story together. To access a mini-game, for that goes also the system of collecting all the necessary items. All the mini-games are skip-able, but for that you need to have a full meter, and after you unlock a mini-game it is again playable in the main menu section separately. The graphics of the game will definitely stun you, as the hand-drawn pictures are definitely a work of art each for themselves. You will definitely experience its beauty influencing your gameplay. The fans of the series will definitely enjoy the new sequel, and the newcomers will find something that will interest them in the game.
