We all know what rumors throughout history are spoken about the little town called Salem, Massachusetts about its enormous inhabitants by witches. Everybody thought that that remained in history buried beneath two centuries of dust, but that’s about to change! An author from that time was killed Nathaniel Hawthorne, and his ghost who left behind because unsolved truth about his murder which even he doesn’t know… As the ghost doesn’t know what to do, he turns to you as you got quite famous with your success with the Midnight Mysteries - The Edgar Allan Poe Conspiracy. Now you must do the same and travel back in time to solve the suspicious circumstances which are involved with his death. Hawthorne died during a strange snow storm and his ghost, unsure of what really happened. When you go back in time you will have all kind of different persons to deal with including dead and alive. One of the things that you’ll certainly notice is that the mystery stays a mystery until the very end. Your investigation has a couple of standard detective work which needs to be done, like questioning witness, collecting different kind of clues and items which are all a part of the game. The games dark scene is perfect for a HOG in which you are searching for suspicious items, some of which will be used to solve puzzles later on. Because this game has standard HO attributes it’s normal to find scenes where advancing means you must complete the list you are given and find all of the items. In the later part of the game searching items becomes easier as the items will glow in green color and make it easier for you to track them down. One of the characteristic of this game is different than other HOG and that’s the hint system. In most of the games it uses a recharge system whether it is on time or collecting items based recharge, but there the number of hints is limited to how many you can find them. Hints are collected by searching for birds, to be exact crows. Talking to witnesses, which consist entirely of ghosts, is fairly straightforward. In most cases you're given three questions you can ask and occasionally you'll have to give them an item before they'll reveal any information. But memorizing information’s shouldn’t bother you as you got a quite handy notebook that takes notes of every important conversation or something else that happened. As for the items you have in your inventory besides giving them to the ghosts you’ll find yourself combining them into puzzle solutions that you need in a certain level. For example, you can't use a pen without ink or a gavel without a handle. The puzzles you need to assemble aren’t difficult at all but in case they are, a relatively small inventory gives you the opportunity of a couple of combinations until you have right one. There are also a few skip able mini-games thrown in for good measure that will have you doing everything from cracking a safe to brewing a love potion. With the combinations of spooky graphics with very nice details, and additional to the sound that makes the scene a complete horror series, this game goes beyond any standard HOG on the market as certainly superior in every way as it gives a 3-4 hours of beautiful game play and enjoyment that is rarely seen these days. Salem Witch Trials manages to overcome the sophomore curse and offer up an experience that's even better than the original.
