Is “Numberless Social Calling” the next big thing?

It might not be the Facebook Phone yet, but it is reported that Facebook is now teaming together with a number of mobile carriers to offer a "social calling" service.

Facebook has initially strike up a deal with the multinational French carrier Orange, which will allow the friends on facebook to call each other without having to know their phone numbers.

The voice calling service is apparently going to allow the facebook users to make calls through both desktop and mobile versions of the social network. And according to the news the service might also support placing group calls.

Orange is going to power the new service in combination with its new IP-based messaging and calling application named Libon (Life is better on), which is considered as a competitor of mobile Skype. The application is already available on the iOS, and the Android application is expected to come out in 2013.

The social calling service of facebook is planned to go live within France on the summer of 2013.

However, facebook has not made any comments on whether or when they are planning to expand the service on to an international level.
