Google Inc., the American multinational search engine giant, has made a striving assault on the laptop market, yesterday. The company confirmed the rumors that have been circulation for months by introducing the Chromebook Pixel, a device that features a high resolution, large-format touch screen. This is the first touch-screen laptop that is running Google’s Chrome OS.

The new laptop, Chromebook Pixel, features a 13-inch display with 239 pixels per inch, which is slightly higher than MacBooks designed by Apple. The screen can respond to finger touch and swipe signals.

Demonstrating Chromebook Pixel, Sundar Pichai, the senior vice president of Chrome, stated that the aim of Google was to make a laptop that can satisfy the needs of early adopters and developers.

Although Google has claimed that it never thinks in terms of the market share, the new high-end laptop puts the company in straight rivalry with Apple, mainly with Apple’s Macbook Air. Pichai claimed that the Pixel is offering better features for its market price.

The Internet search giant has been planning to get into the hardware design market for a quite a while, with the aid of its recently acquired units from Motorola Mobility, which builds and designs tablets and smartphones.
