Insomniac hit by cyber attack on Dec 22, leaking Wolverine game info & staff data. Firm advises employees to watch for fraud and extends credit protection benefits for 2 years, pledging improved security.

Insomniac, the acclaimed studio behind Marvel's Spiderman and Marvel's Spiderman 2, suffered a series of malicious cyber attacks on December 22nd, 2023. Information concerning new releases such as their upcoming Wolverine game, as well as company data (including personal information on various employees), was stolen. They have now issued a letter to those affected, informing employees exactly what data was taken associated with them.

Advising employees to “remain vigilant against threats of identity theft or fraud and to review and monitor your account statements and credit history for any signs of unauthorized transactions or activity regularly,” as well as stating that “this experience has been extremely distressing for us.”

The letter also contained a notice of an extension to a part of their employee benefit package, which allows staff to gain access to credit monitoring and identity restoration services. The benefit has been extended for at least 2 years.

“We are committed to learning from this incident,” Insomniac wrote. “We have strengthened our security controls, and we are taking other steps to reduce the risk of this type of cyber event occurring in the future.”
