From the art and stories of famed graphic novelist and filmmaker Enki Bilal, and the studio created by adventure game legend Benoit Sokal comes Nikopol: Secrets of the Immortals. Set in France in the year 2023, the country is governed by a dictator who rules by religious absolute power. A mysterious ship shaped like a pyramid has just appeared in the sky and sent representatives to speak with the French government. As Nikopol, you will find yourself in a suspenseful adventure to find your father and thwart a dangerous conspiracy. Entangled in political intrigue you are caught between two worlds, one of anarchy and one of immortality.
Based on Enki Bilal's novel, The Nikopol Trilogy, this game is a point and click adventure from White Birds Productions. The game is based in France, or rather Paris which is suffering under a rigid totalitarian regime. The story opens with a sequence where mysterious ship that is shaped like a pyramid has just appeared in the sky, and has sent representatives to the French government. The visitors are the so-called Egyptian gods and you play Alcide Nikopol, an third-rate artist making a pretty poor go at living off his paintings in Paris in the year 2023. One of the so-called Egyptian gods, Horus is working on his own agenda and decides to take over and have power over the body of Nikopol's father, who has spent the last several decades imprisoned in a cryogenically frozen state. An excellent sci-fi adventure ensues as Nikopol risks his life penetrating to the very heart of the corrupt state to find answers to a lot of questions. The game graphics is detailed and exquisitely presented. Weird monsters that look like lobsters and flying cars add a touch of realism to the game's atmosphere. In the main game, Nikopol will explore every nook and corner and pick up things in order to gather clues. There are interesting puzzles to be solved like weird monsters that look like action (timed) sequences, manipulative and inventory-combining types. You have to use the mouse to move between the nodes with a single discreet dot in the center of the screen as the focus. Right clicking brings up the inventory where you can work on combining various items together. The background score is nice and blends well with the dark futuristic setting of the game. A thrilling challenge with great graphics, brain bending puzzles and dynamic cursor, which allows you to pick up, interact, or read with one button, Nikopol makes a great addictive game. The scenes are extremely well detailed and the 3D character models are superbly done creating a rare blend of post-apocalyptic grunge with sci-fi dreariness. Nikopol would be a treasure for the adventure enthusiast.
